45. An Attitude of Gratitude

There is a popular misconception that believers are always happy. Happy? It certainly isn't always true for me. What about you? Do you pretend to be happy in front of people, at least in certain situations? You may feel you need to at times to do so. The reality is these kinds of demands and expectations happen for everyone. It is the attitude and the choice as to how you deal with your situations that counts and can change your reality. David, in his battle within himself, asked for the Lord to overlook his attitude and his faults. Psalm 51:10 "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." David prayed for a clean heart as he connected with the Lord. Elijah List wrote (July 4, 2018) "so this means as you trust the Lord, you're always blessed, whatever the circumstances." Vow! Whatever the circumstances??? The Lord is asking us to step higher and see the circumstances from His perspective. You see, He always knows from the beginning to the end. If you could only see it; the battle you are in, from His perspective!

As the Lord sees you with a different viewpoint, He asks you to trust Him with the outcome from His Divine perspective. I Thessalonians 5:18-21 "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil." These are wise and mighty words to follow. Ephesians 5:20-21 validates this request "giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God." Many have struggled with these verses; how can anyone handle the sudden, violent death or a grave illness of someone loved or the death of a child? "Do not despise prophesies"?! No words can quench the desperation of a grieving parent! I have struggled with these words and can guess you have done the same. You and I simply cannot see the big picture. We simply need to hold fast to what is good and trust.

It takes determination and accountability; responsibility of yourself to take control of your life. This can be created and maintained by creating boundaries. Boundaries are issues discussed in earlier blogs (July, August 2017). To develop an attitude of gratitude takes focus and determination. It is focused recognition of the grace of God and others living through Him who are His angels in action. An attitude of gratitude is possible when all the control is given to the Creator's power. It's only through Him that you are strong! Hope, faith, love and peace come in through Him. Hope for the things not seen, faith to believe in the power of the King and love and peace with the gratitude for the all knowing God who created us and knows all our thoughts.

The power of gratitude releases God's ability to heal issues in your life. Did you know that? In Mark 6 Jesus goes to teach in Jerusalem and is stopped from providing miracles of healing because of "their unbelief". They lacked gratitude, were doubtful and full of pride. They did not believe in the Creator. Their lack of gratitude stopped Jesus from healing in His hometown. Your gratitude allows His healing power to manifest.

Love is the foundation of gratitude. Love that springs from gratitude is the very essence of faith. Psalm 30:11-12 "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, to the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever."

What He is asking for you to do is believe, have faith in the Creator, hope for things to change combined with faith and trust. Hebrews 11:1,6 "Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." He will respond to you when you seek Him.

What can you take out of it? The bold attitude of love, hope, faith and trust enables the Creator to work in and through you. So, go forward, Warrior, and choose to do so with boldness and assurance of His work through you. Take each step with gratitude of His power through you! Romans 8:28 states "and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God to those who are called according to His purpose." There is a purpose to your existence. He created you for a reason for you to discover and live out!
