31. How do you model the love of a believer?

That question is a big one to answer. I have spent much time thinking about how I can allow myself to be the vessel of love, compassion, resilience and endurance? I am so imperfect in every way! I can be impatient, difficult, reactive and stressed - at least on the inside (even on the outside sometimes). Yet that is the very place He sees, knows well and loves me regardless. The place of my sinful thoughts, actions, words can have devastating effects. Modeling His love is difficult when I don't feel it in me. Yet, in this very place of modeling I face the reality of His love and acceptance of me and my sins. His promise is in Psalm 126:5 "Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy." What this has meant on a personal level is to model love regardless of personal feelings. There is such joy through choosing to express myself through Him and not through myself! John 16:24 "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full." He also reminds in James 1:22 "but be doers of the world, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." Ouch!

What about you? Have you thought and experienced similar doubts in your life? Let's discuss joy. Joy is an unshakable confidence in the truth of God despite circumstances. This means that regardless where you are at He loves you and yearns for you to open the door of your heart. He is the God of hope! Romans 15:13 states "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." There is such joy, even when hurting, in His reminder of His compassionate love for you. Psalm 139:13-14 "For you formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;" You can choose joy in Him regardless of what you are going through!

Trials will come upon you when you place your confidence in God. James 1:2-5 "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let the patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." Trials hurt and you may feel rejected and judged. Luke 6:22-23 states "Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, for in like manner their father's did to the prophets." Resilience in the Lord enables growth within. Wear your warrior suit with pride!

It is vital to display the fruits of the spirit you were given; "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control," not through yourself but through the amazing God we serve! He will give you only what you can handle through Him. These blessings and the growth from fruits of the spirit will be discussed further in my next blog.
