Has rejection from others stung you at a certain point or a stage in your life? What’s wrong with you (?) might be words someone challenges you with. These might be the very words used to describe, accuse or question how you are now.

Personal feelings of being unwanted, rejected might resonate with you. At a certain point in your life, it might even seem that rejection attacks the person you are created to be! Rejection is indeed a spirit and it attacks your core being; your self-worth, and the love and acceptance you desire for yourself or from others. Self-condemnation, guilt, fear and shame can then easily move in.

John 10:10 says “The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy.” Stealing of self-worth will occur when you feel minimized or destroyed. Love and acceptance will disappear when you react back with hostility, self-blame, reactions, condemnation and guilt. Killing and destroying of the spirit will follow as this oppression moves in bringing self-pity, resentment and offense.

It may get worse.

The oppression based on anxiety and fear can then bring in further rejection by adding or inviting side-effects from brokenness. These side-effects occur either through withdrawal, self-condemnation or through shame. Emotional or physical abuse, separation, divorce, drug, alcohol or sexual abuse (past or present) may be tools for the enemy to assure you remain rejected and broken.

Have I got your attention? What happens out of this is you may adopt a distorted self-image. This encourages focus on yourself instead of leaning or trusting God for your needs. Focusing on yourself brings in bitterness, resentment, reactivity and self-pity. The door is then opened, spirits from the enemy are welcomed in. Hostility and distrust are at the forefront.

You can then arrive to the enemy’s welcoming territory; that of anger and reactivity, bitterness, withdrawal, judgement and self-condemnation. The spirit of rejection enters and attacks your very core.

You have a choice. According to Romans 8:15 (NKJV), “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out ‘Abba, Father.’” Spiritual adoption is vital, as it means to be welcomed into the Father and being adopted as His bride.

What does this mean then? You may yearn for a real sense of being loved. Loved, accepted, treasured, honored and valued. You may desire a real sense of your worth and truly hunger for it. Choose Him!

A real sense of being loved with abundant grace and mercy comes from the Father who yearns for a loving relationship with you. You desire to feel significant. You can be in the eyes of your Heavenly Father. Luke 3:21-22 “You are my Son (or a daughter), the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”

This means you have a significant choice to make. If you choose to focus on the Father and be released from the enemy’s captivity, your real freedom and joy awaits. It is a focused, conscious choice to make and then maintain.

The Father then will joyfully welcome you home as His treasured and much loved bride! You are loved and eternally treasured! He continues to knock on the door of your heart and waits for your invitation to be let in. Welcome home!
